Yeah, most things do after a while. But panic does faster than most, I think.

The day he gets out of Zero, the first thing Billy does is find Marty's cabin and knock on the door, looking to collect his dog.

Marty gets an early warning that someone's at the door in the form of Terror running up and scratching at it. He nudges the dog aside and opens the door.

"Hey, he's right here."

Billy's too busy greeting his dog to say anything to Marty right away, spending a minute or so crouched down with Terror, getting slobbery dog kisses all over his face.

Eventually though, he straightens up. "Thanks for looking after im."

"It was no problem. He's a good dog." He watches the dog slobber all over Billy, grinning a little.

"Occasionally 'e is, yeah," Billy says, scratching Terror's head affectionately, probably joking about the 'occasionally' remark. "Did you 'ave any of his stuff 'ere?"

"Oh, yeah," he says, "not much, but I've got a dog bed and dishes and a couple of toys. I think I have a bag, somewhere, if you need it to carry stuff."

"That'd be great, thanks. You don't 'ave a dog yourself, do yeh?" he asks, while Marty gathers the stuff.

"Not here, no," he says, packing everything up, "we did when my girls were little. I wanted one when I was on my own, but I was gone too much."

"Yeah, that's a problem when you're gone alot." Says the man who just spent the last week in Zero.

"Have you hand him long?" He hands the bag to Billy.

"Since 'e was a pup, yeah. How old are your kids?" he asks as he takes the bag.

[all_hart]

"In their early 20s, both of them." He realizes with a guilty jolt that he's no longer sure of their exact ages.

[Not that Andred has anything else to change it too, mind.  But given he'd mostly been looking to find someone to complain to, he hadn't really been looking for an in depth conversation, either.]

"So, all grown up then. Never 'ad any kids myself," he admits.

"Yeah, all grown up and out on their own," he says, "it's... I love them, but I'm barely in their lives. Even before I came here."

"Get yourself a dog," Billy suggests as he turns to leave. "It 'elps with filling in the empty spaces."

"Yeah, I'll just go out to a pet store and pick one up," he says, "it's a good idea, but kind of impractical."

"You probably could if you asked Iris to take you. She comes and goes as she pleases, I've 'eard. Or ask the bloody admiral for one, or pick one up in the next port. Lots of options, bruv."

"I'll put it on my list."
